The math behind it: Working Days
working days = weekdays from the start date to the end date, inclusive, minus holidays
The calculator counts every Monday to Friday in the period. It does not know which days are public holidays where you live, so enter the number that fall on weekdays and they are taken off. The whole of 2026 has 261 weekdays before holidays.
Common questions
How do I calculate working days between two dates?
Count the days from the start date to the end date, including both, and leave out the Saturdays and Sundays. Then subtract any public holidays that land on a weekday.
How many working days are in a year?
Usually 260 to 262 weekdays, depending on the year: 2026 has 261. Take off the public holidays where you live, about 10 or 11 in the US, to get actual working days.
How many working days are in a month?
Between 20 and 23, depending on the month and where the weekends fall. The average is just under 22.
