The math behind it: Time Zone Converter
time there = time here + (their UTC offset - your UTC offset)
9:00 AM in New York is 2:00 PM in London for most of the year, a difference of five hours. Because countries switch to and from daylight saving time on different dates, the gap can change by an hour for a few weeks in spring and autumn, which is why the date matters.
Common questions
How do I convert between time zones?
Find each place's offset from UTC and take the difference. New York in winter is UTC-5 and London is UTC+0, so London is 5 hours ahead.
What is the time difference between New York and London?
London is 5 hours ahead of New York for most of the year. For short periods in March and in late October or early November it is 4 hours, because the US and UK change their clocks on different dates.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the world's reference time. Every time zone is described as a number of hours ahead of or behind UTC, and UTC itself never changes for daylight saving.
