a/b + c/d = (ad + bc) / bd a/b x c/d = ac / bd a/b ÷ c/d = ad / bc

To add or subtract, the fractions need a common denominator. To divide, flip the second fraction and multiply. The result is simplified by dividing top and bottom by their greatest common factor.
